That’s all they really want

So here’s a step by step on my Dash and Lily artwork.

It’s my first time doing digital art from scratch so forgive me for my ways. First I drew an outline on my sketchpad. Since I didn’t have a scanner, I just took a picture of it. It’s good if you can draw as much detail because you can use this as a guide.

Using Photoshop, I adjusted the brightness and stuff for the background. Using the magic wand tool I selected areas and started to fill them with colors. Important thing to remember is make new layers. It’s okay if there are alot, just name them properly so you won’t get confused. If you make a mistake or change your mind, you can always delete that layer or use color overlay to change the original color. For the eyes, nose and mouth, I used the pen tool which I thought was hard to use, but you’ll get a hang of it eventually. I added highlights and shadows to using the pen tool too, and just filling them in with a darker color. Brushes can also be useful. Just make new layers for every part so it’s easy to erase and re-color.This is how I picture them in my mind. I also used images of celebrities as a guide, yup! that would also be helpful. For Dash, I pictured him being John Gomez (The Summer Set) lol and for Lily, I just looked for random blonde haired celebrities haha. I then added one of my favorite quotes from the book and viola…..

My next project is Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters from The Fault In Our Stars by John Green 🙂

As for the title, it’s from The Maine’s cover of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” from Punk goes Pop 5. It’s a great cover!
